Getting started
Do I need to make an account?
No. Ember has no sign-up and no login. You set your sober date and a few reasons for stopping, and you're in — usually within the first five seconds.
How do I set my sober date?
During the short setup, you choose the day you stopped drinking. Your flame and day count start from there. You can also start fresh today.
What is the flame?
The flame is your sober time. It breathes gently while you're lit, dims to a coal when a craving hits, and relights when you get through it. Your day count is simply how long it's stayed burning.

How does the coach work?
Tap “I'm having an urge” any time. Ember opens a short, grounded conversation and offers one coping tool that fits the moment — an urge-surf timer, breathing, play-the-tape, or your own reasons. It's shaped by the reasons and triggers you chose, so it's about you.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. If you're offline, the coach falls back to on-device coping tools so a late-night urge is never blocked by a lost signal.
Is the coach a therapist?
No. Ember is a supportive companion, not a therapist or medical provider. It will never give medical or detox advice, and it points you to real help — including 988 and SAMHSA — in a crisis.
Milestones, resets & privacy
What happens if I drink?
Nothing shaming. The flame gently goes out, and Ember relights it — that's all it ever is. Your history and journal are always kept; you never lose them.
Can I share a milestone?
Yes. When you reach a milestone you can generate a warm flame card to share, if you want to. Sharing is always your choice.
Where is my data stored?
On your device. There's no public feed and no account. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture, including how the coach handles messages.
Can I back up my data?
Yes — you can turn on optional iCloud backup, which stores your data in your own private iCloud container. We never see it.
Subscription & billing
What's free and what's Pro?
The flame, your counter, the craving coach, core coping tools, milestones, and the compassionate reset are free. Ember Pro adds unlimited coaching, personal daily reflections, home-screen widgets, an Apple Watch flame, Face ID lock, and iCloud backup.
How much is Ember Pro?
$29.99 per year with a 7-day free trial, or a one-time $79.99 for lifetime. A monthly option is also available at $7.99. Prices may vary by region.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
Manage or cancel anytime in Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Auto-renewing subscriptions renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
How do I restore a purchase?
Open the paywall in the app and tap “Restore Purchases.” Your lifetime or subscription entitlement will be restored on the same Apple ID.
Is the lifetime option a subscription?
No. Lifetime is a one-time purchase — no auto-renewal, no recurring charge.
